Alpilles
3 to 5 hours walk
(Mid March to end of June & September to Mid November):
Commence your journey in the town of Saint Rémy de Provence, renowned for its Wednesday market and notable as the place where Van Gogh spent his final year. Embark on a hike above the village, tracing a path shaded by majestic cedar trees, leading to the summit of the Alpilles Mountains. Despite being "baby Alps" in stature, these mountains overlook the flat Rhône Valley. From the rocky peak, enjoy a 360° panorama encompassing Avignon and its Papal palace to the north, various mountain ranges, and on clear days, the sparkling Mediterranean to the south. Olive groves adorn the foothills, and our route takes us along thyme-laden paths, away from tourist crowds. Optional picnic lunches are available.
Luberon
3 - 5 hours walk
(Mid March to end of June & September to Mid November):
Embark on our journey at the literal end of the road, starting at a 17th-century goat farm nestled beneath towering limestone cliffs in the remote depths of the Luberon Mountains. Exploring the most secluded area of the Luberon Park, we'll traverse ancient cobbled tracks high above the Aiguebrun gorge, surrounded by paths adorned with fragrant herbs and wildflowers.
Our route will lead us to the secluded village of Sivergues, comprised of just a few homes clustered along a single lane. On the return, we'll pass through abandoned farmers' fields and follow the course of the Luberon's sole permanent river, flanked by towering cliffs and lush vegetation. Optionally, we can visit a 3000-year-old fort.
Dentelles de Montmirail
3-5 hours walk
(Mid March to end June & September to Mid November):
Commencing in the medieval village of Gigondas, we'll meander through its cobbled streets and explore ancient fortification walls before ascending above it. The renowned vines, low to the ground and gnarled, lie beneath imposing limestone cliffs known as the Dentelles de Montmirail, soaring high above the Rhône Valley.
This landscape serves as a hiker's paradise, with a network of criss-crossing paths across the mountain chain, offering endless hiking possibilities and breathtaking views of the Rhône Valley – home to the world's second-largest vineyard. For those interested, wine tastings are available at local family-run estates, and we can arrange picnics for all-day hikes.
