Did you know that the lavender harvest was often carried out by women and children who did the picking in the morning. The men joined them later with a mule hitched to a still to distill on the spot. It was only at the end of the 18th century that Lavender was domesticated to be grown in the open fields. Cultivation has made it more accessible, easier to maintain and harvest. Some farmers first uprooted wild lavender to introduce them to their plots. They then continued to multiply it by seed or by cuttings to plant them in the open fields.
